What do you know about veneers?

That is good, or that stars choose a smile decorated with veneers?
In fact, making a veneers is an ultra-fine work of both the dentist and the dental technician who produces the veneer itself. Seeing the picture as a whole is like an artist’s drawing. The dentist selects the shape, color, tone of the tooth, for a man or a woman, for a businessman or artist, politician or stewardess. In every look, there are things that the teeth should support and complement, and in no way go against the wearer’s emotional style! There is nothing alike in nature, there are no two identical trees, snowflakes, even two halves of the face are not alike in everything – this is what our dental practice is based on.

The manufacture of ceramic restorations has given a very big advantage over all other types of crowns – adhesive fixation. This is the bonding of ceramic structures and tooth enamel at the chemical level, like photopolymer fillings, that is, the tooth and veneer actually become one.

We have experience in installing veneers for both 1 tooth and all teeth, because sometimes it is necessary not only for a cool look, but also for the correct distribution of the masticatory load. So, whether it’s a chipped tooth or unaesthetic front teeth, or even bite height problems – we can offer a solution for every case! The dental technician will make a veneer with the right light transmission, texture and shape just for your smile and chewing system.

Veneers – what is it?

We are sure that many of you have heard that veneers are a good way to get a dazzling Hollywood smile, as they are used by many representatives of social life. You are not mistaken – it really is! However, some mistakenly perceive any veneers as something simple. In fact, high-quality dental veneers are not only an innovative breakthrough in dentistry, but also the jewelry painstaking work of a large number of craftsmen, dentists and technicians who make veneers on teeth.

Veneers – a means for aesthetic restoration of teeth, are thin ceramic plates (sometimes made of composite materials or porcelain) attached to the outer surface of the teeth. This method helps to show the beauty of any smile from the best side and eliminate the aesthetic “shortcomings” of the dentition. The plates perform the functions of aligning the teeth and correcting their color, sometimes even without the need for long-term wearing of braces or the use of crowns.

What is the main difference between veneers?

Of course, both veneers and crowns are designed to provide a beautiful aesthetic appearance of the teeth and hide some of their shortcomings. However, these methods of aesthetic restoration have their own differences.

Crowns cover much more of the tissues surrounding the tooth, but veneers are installed only on the front of the teeth. Because of this, another difference appears: under the crowns, the tooth must be cut in a circle, removing all the enamel, and for veneers, this is work within the surface of the tooth enamel, not reaching the dentin. Before installing crowns, the doctor must grind the tooth so that there is a place for planting the structure, and before installing veneers, this can be avoided by grinding the tooth only to the width necessary to cover the color and change the shape (usually 0.3 mm).

Another important difference between veneers and conventional crowns is adhesive fixation – chemical bonding of ceramic structures and tooth enamel, when the veneer and tooth become one at the chemical level. This method avoids the use of cement in fixing these plates, as is done when installing crowns. Ceramics are held together by a bonding adhesive that penetrates the veneer itself and the tooth enamel, making them one.

It is worth noting that neither crowns nor veneers can eliminate problems with teeth or correct the curved shape of the dental arch – they only help to hide many defects and flaws in the color and shape of the teeth.

Are veneers different?

The answer to this question is unambiguous – of course, there are! Human teeth are an individual feature, so everyone needs their own approach to correction or treatment. Veneers can be installed on one tooth, and on several, and on the entire line of the dentition. In our clinic, you can perform a high-quality installation of veneers for one tooth or all teeth for various purposes: aesthetic, medical, to correct the function of chewing.

Classifications of veneers are also different: according to installation methods, materials and thickness.

Veneers: direct or indirect?

According to the duration and method of installation, dental veneers are divided into direct and indirect veneers.

Direct veneers:

  • created by the dentist directly in the oral cavity;
  • made of a composite, since high temperature is required to create ceramic veneers;
  • installed in one visit.

Indirect veneers:

  • created by a qualified technician in a laboratory;
  • are developed by at least two specialists for an ideal “symbiosis” with the teeth of a particular patient;
  • can be made of ceramic, porcelain or composite materials;
  • are installed by the dentist in several steps, as they require pre-fabrication.

Both direct and indirect veneers perform well, but indirect dental veneers require more time and effort from the craftsmen, including more subtle and personalized work. Due to this, such plates will serve patients more reliably and better. Our Dobrozub clinic uses indirect veneers made by the best master technicians in Kyiv, who create incredible high-quality and natural works.

Does the thickness of the veneers matter?

By thickness, veneers are divided into the following categories:

  • simple (thickness from 1 to 1.5 mm);
  • thin (thickness from 0.3 to 1 mm);
  • ultra-thin (thickness up to 0.3 mm).

Our dental clinic Dobrozub uses ultra-thin and thin veneers made using advanced technologies, the strength of the material and the accuracy of the production equipment gives a huge plus in reliability.

Already at the first stages, a model of the future smile is made and the thickness to which the enamel needs to be removed is determined. The preparation itself takes place with the help of a microscope – to control every millimeter and movement.

A professional dental technician is engaged in the creation of the thinnest veneers for teeth using a microscope, which allows you to do without special turning of the teeth and not harm the enamel. The next step is the chief technician – he paints the veneer using a special technique that gives the effect of depth and naturalness of the tooth structure.

Ceramic and composite veneers

Ceramic veneers are thin plates for teeth made of ceramics. Such plates are made under the influence of high temperatures or special milling machines. They are only indirect. Porcelain veneers have many advantages: high strength and the possibility of perfect polishing, aesthetic appearance, long service life. These veneers can be used on the entire smile area, correcting minor flaws such as the color and curvature of the teeth.

Composite veneers are composite material plates used to correct one or two teeth. You can install such veneers in one go, while processing not the entire tooth, but only the area that requires color or shape correction.

The Dobrozub dental clinic uses high-quality and expensive veneers, which you will not find in network clinics or budget works. The use of such restorations (precisely made of ceramics) has many advantages over other types of veneers, including long useful life, color retention, glossy luster and properties similar to natural enamel. Be sure that having made veneers with us, you will not meet another person with the same teeth, because each of our work is individual.

Veneers and Lumineers

Lumineers are a special branded type of veneer made in the USA. Such veneers are characterized by their incredible thinness, and they can only be made by owning a special patent with the necessary equipment. This option is the most quickly installed, but has a significant number of disadvantages, such as low strength, universal shape, gaps between different types of tooth shape are very different.

Our dental technician uses unique modern technologies and careful jewelry work in his work to create his veneers, which are installed in our dental clinic. The technician works on their making, depending on: the individual characteristics of a person, such as the shape of the face, lips, eyes, and even the character of a person, his facial expressions. For these veneers, the best materials that are presented today are selected, they are also ultra-thin, and their service life is much longer than that of lumineers. The Ips e max technology is used in special milling machines that cut out from the block the shape set on the computer according to the patient’s impressions.

Indications and contraindications for the installation of veneers

Sometimes a person simply cannot do without veneers, and he may not even be aware of it. Some, on the contrary, are contraindicated in the use of veneers on their teeth.

If you are dreaming of a brilliant smile, you will need to know the following things:

  1. Indications
    – yellow plaque on the teeth (yellowed dentin, which is visible through the enamel, often occurs in smokers);
    – chips or cracks on the surface of the teeth;
    – darkened or spotted enamel;
    – slight curvature of the teeth;
    – distorted shape of teeth;
    – промежутки или щели между зубами;
    – высокий уровень стираемости зубов.
  2. Contraindications
    – baby teeth (veneers are not installed for small children);
    – the presence of bruxism (teeth grinding disease);
    – engaging in contact sports or any sport with a high probability of damaging the teeth (lacrosse, hockey, boxing).

Veneer installation process

Since our clinic is progressive and uses the highest quality indirect veneers with an individual approach to each patient, we also use the most modern method of their installation – digital.

This installation method involves the following steps:

  • Creation of a 3D model of the oral cavity: the dentist, using special devices, creates a digital copy of the patient’s jaw to display detailed anatomical features of the teeth, and sends the result for processing.
  • Photometry: A photoshoot process that allows a better understanding of the anatomical characteristics of the patient’s face, including lips, teeth and jaws, in order to use this information in the creation of veneers.
  • Modeling of the future smile:The specialist technician creates an accurate virtual image of the patient’s smile using special innovative programs and following the rules of the golden ratio to make the veneers as pleasing to the human eye as possible. The patient can make adjustments and express wishes about the color or shape of the teeth, and, of course, receive recommendations from the attending physician.
  • Creation of temporary veneers:the dentist in the clinic fixes an analogue of the permanent veneers made by the technician on the patient’s teeth, which makes it possible to more clearly understand what adjustment needs to be made.
  • Creation of permanent veneers: the technician makes veneers according to the selected sketch, and the dentist fixes the linings with adhesive material, which protects the enamel of the teeth and helps in the fight against caries.

Advantages of veneers over other types of aesthetic restoration of teeth

Naturally, the installation of veneers has a huge number of positive aspects in comparison with photopolymer restorations. Our dental clinic will allow you to be convinced of this, as we always try to be the best in our business.

The advantages of veneers are:

  • veneers protect teeth from acid or sugar, almost do not accumulate plaque and do not scratch;
  • veneers can serve for a long time (up to 20 years) if you choose high-quality materials and equipment that are used in our Dobrozub dental clinic and follow the rules for using them.
  • veneers can be cleaned in the same way as ordinary teeth – with a regular toothbrush and toothpaste;
  • veneers are quickly and easily installed, and are also sure to suit your smile, thanks to individual manufacturing technology;
  • The veneers of our master technician look beautiful and natural, have a natural color and will add uniqueness to your smile.

The answer to the question of the time of manufacture of veneers should be divided into several possible options.
The process itself – digital modeling of a smile, changing the shape of the teeth, demonstration to the patient – all this takes several hours. Then the layout is printed – 1-1.5 hours. Transfer to the oral cavity, also about an hour, coordination. Preparation of teeth for veneers, about 30 minutes 1 tooth (since this stage involves the use of a microscope, for precise control and reduction of possible negative consequences). Removal of digital impressions – 5 minutes preparation and 2 minutes the process itself. Making and installing temporary restorations – 30 minutes. Milling, correction, application of microstructures and coloring, 6-12 hours. Fitting and fixing – 2 hours.
All these stages can be carried out in a couple of days, but in practice – not always the patient can visit the clinic every day and the dental technician has a week’s workload in advance, so urgent orders are made only at the request of the dentist. The usual period for which veneers are made (installed) is 1-2 weeks.
If it is necessary to change the bite height, problems with the joint when chewing, if there are pronounced orthodontic problems (shape of the bone, position of the teeth, pain and discomfort when chewing in the joint), the rehabilitation time increases.

Veneers can be installed on any number of teeth. Veneers can be placed on 1 tooth, 4 teeth or all teeth. It all depends on the evidence, let’s see.
Veneers are indicated for minor changes in the inclination of the teeth and their shape (if it is necessary to change only the color, there is teeth whitening). If we have one or more problematic teeth that are visible when smiling, then placing veneers on those teeth can correct the problem. It is often possible to combine teeth whitening and veneers to improve the overall picture.
In case of problems with the joint, pain when chewing or a decrease in the height of the bite, correction is possible with the help of veneers and ceramic onlays for the teeth. This protocol typically uses 24-28 ceramic restorations.

To answer the question of whether to align the teeth before installing veneers, you need to understand the features of the process.
The veneer has a thickness of 0.2-1 mm and in order to install it, you need to remove a layer of enamel of the required volume. If the tooth is turned or protrudes, the required thickness of tissue preparation changes accordingly. If the tooth does not reach the bite or is littered inward, then it may not be necessary to remove the tissue at all to install a ceramic restoration. But in the case of teeth protruding forward or knocking out of the bite, it is necessary to remove tissues more aggressively, sometimes it is even necessary to remove the nerve. During the tests, it was proved that the fixation of ceramic restorations to the tooth enamel is much stronger than to the underlying dentin, this is another disadvantage of strong tooth grinding. Changes in the slopes and strong turns of the anterior teeth also indicate problems with the bite of the chewing teeth. If the functional problem is not corrected and the teeth are not aligned before the veneers, then we risk permanent chipping of the veneers on the front teeth.
It is for these reasons that our dentistry does not recommend the installation of veneers with significant reversals and bite problems, without prior alignment. In order to accurately assess all risks, we use a high-precision scanner, with the ability to view chewing efficiency, and also check the structure of the temporomandibular joint in the picture. We recommend that you consult a doctor who can accurately draw up an optimal treatment plan.

The growth of the human skeleton continues by the age of 18-19, until this moment the shape of the face, bones changes, and the position of the teeth also changes. A period of up to 20 years is good to use to correct bite problems, and early detection of improper growth of wisdom teeth in the future can help you avoid braces! But such procedures as dental implantation and veneers are not desirable until the age of 18 (the end of skeletal growth). Until the age of 18, temporary veneers can be installed to help correct aesthetic problems. And in case of unsatisfactory color of the teeth, safe whitening will be optimal.

Installing a veneer on 1 tooth includes taking several impressions, digitally building a new shape of teeth, trying on several sets of temporary restorations, making and fixing a permanent veneer. All these processes are done in the team of doctor technician and patient. Veneers differ both in physical properties, materials, quality and processing methods, as well as in the technique that makes each product individually. Coloring, applying microstructures, as well as the overall vision of the picture, affects the final result and distinguishes even light overlays from natural works of art that look harmonious in the oral cavity. All this affects the cost of a veneer for 1 tooth. It is hard to overestimate the work that has to be done reworking someone’s incorrectly made veneers. We advise you to weigh the pros and cons before deciding where to carry out this procedure. You can get acquainted with our price list in the “prices” section or at a consultation with a dentist.
